What are cavities?
SmileBright Dental has a belief that prevention is the best form of treatment, if we do have to intervene, the most conservative approach is always explored first. Simple treatments like fillings can improve the life, and most of the time rectify, a tooth with limited intervention. Catching decay early increases the chance of limited to no work needing to be done again.
Cavities form when bacteria in the mouth mix with saliva to form a sticky film called plaque. This plaque is full of acids that attack the enamel of the teeth. If the plaque is not removed, it will continue to erode the enamel and cause a hole or cavity in the tooth. Without proper oral hygiene, the plaque can accumulate and cause cavities. To prevent cavities, it’s important to brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste and floss at least once a day. It’s also important to see your dentist regularly for preventative care appointments.
Fillings like all dental procedures are always better off completed at the earliest convivence. When proposed dental treatment is neglected or overlooked it can lead to more serious issues, more expensive treatment and pain. An example is when you encounter a small cavity, most of the time it can easily be fixed with a filling, but it can turn into a lengthy, painful and expensive toothache needing to have a root canal treatment to save it, if there is not early intervention.
