What Will Happen During a Regular Examination?

Your check-up will allow our dentist to closely examine your teeth and gums and to assess any changes since your last visit. We also carry out regular screening for oral cancer. This is a quick, non-invasive examination of your oral tissues for any changes to its appearance or texture. Once your examination is complete, our dentist will discuss any areas of concern, or possible treatments required. We will also need to know any changes to your general health, as this could affect any treatment you may need.

How Often Will I Need a Check-up?

People with reasonable dental health will normally require six monthly checks, but if you have any medical conditions or health problems that could affect your dental health, we might suggest you see us more frequently. This can be determined when you first visit our dental practice and after we have assessed your current level of dental health.

Professional Scale and Clean

Your professional scale and clean is vital for maintaining healthy gums. During this treatment, your teeth are carefully scaled using special dental instruments. This is a process that removes calculus (hardened plaque). Calculus contains bacteria that can infect and inflame your gums. Afterwards we can polish your teeth, so they look and feel brighter and cleaner. We generally recommend a scale and polish every six months, although some people could benefit from more frequent hygiene appointments. By regularly removing calculus, we can reduce your risk of gum disease. This is a potentially serious condition. Advanced gum disease can lead to tooth loss and may even affect your general health.
