If you are booked in for a New Patient examination, your appointed Dentist will complete a comprehensive oral examination. This includes a complete review of your medical and dental history, oral cancer screening, periodontal health evaluation and examination of your teeth and soft tissues.
We may take x-rays and intra-oral photos, study models, if it is thought to be necessary. Following this exam, our dentist will discuss the findings with you, develop a treatment plan that you are comfortable with, and then we can schedule you according to your needs.
If you have booked in for a particular issue or pain, we will address this for you and get you comfortable again.
After this appointment, it is always a great idea to re-book when it suits you and we can do a comprehensive examination for you. This just lets you know where you are with your dental health. It will give you peace of mind if you are a nervous patient of what’s going on in your mouth.
You may be very surprised with how you are going.
Health History
To make your first appointment smoother, please arrive 10 minutes prior to fill out any necessary forms for this appointment. The medical history form gives us essential information we need to look after your needs in the best and safest manner.
If you take medication, and it is easier to bring your list, we can photocopy this on your arrival and attach it to your file.
We also like to take a photo of our patients, for identification purposes. We will take one when you arrive or you can decline if you wish.
If you are a member of a private health fund, be sure to bring your membership card or add your digital card (if available) so we can process your claim at the end of your visit.

Payment
Payment is expected at the time of your visit. We accept Eftpos, Mastercard, Visa, American Express and cash.
If you are needing to spread your payment over time we offer Afterpay and Humm (Interest free payment plan).
Afterpay allows you to pay your treatment over 4 payments. To pay by Afterpay you will need to download the Afterpay app to your phone.
If you are wanting to pay over 12 – 36 months for your treatment, you will need to apply through Humm. It takes only 10 minutes to apply at our practice. You will only need your driver’s licence and work a minimum of 25 hours a week.

Your Treatment
We ask that you make every effort to keep your appointments. Missing an appointment disrupts proper sequencing of care and delays the completion of your treatment. If you need to reschedule your appointment, we ask that you please call us at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment, to allow us ample time to offer to another patient in need.

Visiting our Practice
Our practice is situated on level 4 of Sunnybank Hills Shopping Town, corner of Compton and Calam Roads, Sunnybank Hills Qld 4109.
We are on level 4 next to Kmart. The closest entrance is the Post Office entrance on level 4. If you park on any other level you are able to access us easily via lifts and escalators.

Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday – 8.00 am – 7.00 pm
Saturday by appointment only – 8.00 am – 3.00 pm

Dr Dennis Chang
Position: Principal Dentist
Qualifications: B.D.S (Otago)
Dr Dennis Chang established Smile Bright Dental over 22 years ago. His extensive experience, world-class treatments and gentle caring dentistry; makes Smile Bright Dental a leading Brisbane dental practice.
Dr. Chang graduated from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 1997 with a Bachelor of Dental Science. He has a special interest in Cosmetic, Restorative and Implant Dentistry and has built an enviable reputation on providing exceptional quality restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Chang has a strong belief that quality treatment with long term stability and regular preventative care are the keys to keeping your teeth for life.

Dr Nelson Lee
Position: Dentist
Qualifications: B.Dent (Syd) PhD
Dr Nelson Lee grew up in Brisbane and graduated from the University of Queensland with a PhD in Medicine, before graduating from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Dentistry. Dr Lee is a general dentist but he is particularly interested in preventative dentistry and implants. He firmly believes in tailoring each treatment to fit the needs of the individual, and he loves being able to help people regain a healthy smile and their self-esteem. Dr Lee also enjoys educating children on the importance of oral health and dental care.
He has lived locally since 1990 and is a long-time supporter of a variety of charity organisations which include the Leukaemia Foundation, the Queensland Cancer Foundation, the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and the Red Cross. Dr Lee always loves talking to patients and you will find him very easy to chat to. He enjoys hearing about people’s travel and holiday plans and likes to keep up with the latest movies and video games.
Dr Ron Koh
Position: Dentist
Qualifications: B.D. Sc (Qld) M.Phil (Dent)
Dr Rongzhen “Ron” Koh grew up in Brisbane and graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science in 2012, before going on to achieve a Masters of Philosophy (Field of Dentistry – Paediatric Dentistry) from the University of Queensland.
Dr Koh is a general dentist and is particularly interested in paediatric dentistry and cosmetic dentistry, and has completed special training in orthodontics. Dr Koh firmly believes in prevention-based dentistry and in treating every patient according to their specific needs, making sure they have the very best care from start to finish so they can be pain-free and confident in their smile. You will find Dr Koh very easy to chat to and his favourite subjects include sports, movies and TV shows and computer games.
Outside of dentistry, Dr Koh enjoys sports, entertainment, keeping fit and being part of the great community here in Sunnybank Hills.
Dr Sandra Chou
Position: Dentist
Qualifications: BA. B.D. Sc (Hons) (Qld)
Dr Sandra Chou completed a degree in Psychology before graduating with honours from The University of Queensland Dental Science. She understands people’s anxiety and focuses on conservative and preventative dental care.
Dr Sandra tailors plan to meet each person’s needs and expectations. Her caring manner and gentle approach has been confirmed by excellent patient feedback.
When not working Dr Sandra enjoys cooking and travelling. Her favourite destination so far is Japan. She welcomes everyone to share your experience exploring the world!
Dr Sandra is fluent in English, Mandarin and Taiwanese Hokkien. With a big smile and gentle hands, she looks forward to meeting more people and providing ongoing care to maintain healthy teeth and a beautiful smile.
Dr Yoon Lee
Position: Dentist
Dr. Yoon Lee is our Korean dentist here at SmileBright Dental.
He attended Griffith University, graduating with a Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science with Graduate Diploma of Dentistry.
As a general dentist, Dr. Yoon Lee enjoys all aspects of dentistry with special interest in implant dentistry, periodontal health, restorative dentistry as well as paediatric dentistry. His uniformed approach towards his patients with high quality of dental competence allows Dr. Yoon Lee to deliver the best dental care that patients seek with his gentle and calm demeanor.
When not working, you will catch Dr. Yoon Lee playing sports that include soccer and tennis, working out at the gym, playing musical instruments and keeping up to date with dental journals.
Dr Henry Wu
Positon: Dentist
Dr Henry Wu was born and raised on the Gold Coast and graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours).
Dr Henry is a general dentist and practises all aspects of dentistry with a focus on preventative care and patient education. His favourite part of being a dentist is making sure each visit is as comfortable as possible so his patients can leave the appointment smiling! Henry is always happy to have a chat and loves listening to the stories his patients have to tell.
Outside of work, Dr Henry enjoys travelling, cooking, and spending time with friends and family on the sunny Gold Coast.
Alan Chan
Position: Oral Heath Therapist
Qualifications: B.App. Sc (Oral Health)
Alan graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Oral Health) from the university of Queensland, Brisbane in 2007. He is an Oral Health Therapist and works with our dentists to promote the idea that “prevention in dentistry is better than intervention”. He feels that health is life and provides quality dental services to the community to ensure everyone has great oral health.
He started his dental career in Rockhampton, where he worked for Queensland Health in the school dental vans for 2 years. He has a passion for dentistry especially children’s dentistry, but also has an interest in periodontal and gum disease treatment.
Outside of work, Alan is a qualified personal trainer who loves to play sports and is a dedicated team member of Smile Bright Dental.
Priority Standby for patients
When making your next appointment, if we are not able to allocate you your preferred time we will put you on Priority Standby. Our front office staff will call you to let you know that, your preferred appointment time if it becomes available.
The most popular times for appointments are 8.00 am and any appointment after 3.30 pm. Please keep in mind when calling for an appointment, 90% of our patients re-book their 6 months examination and clean appointment 6 months ahead so they can secure the appointment that is perfect for them.
We will send you a courtesy SMS to remind you of your appointment that you have booked 6 months ahead. This allows you to check your schedule and reschedule it if need be.
We then send you another courtesy reminder 2 days before your appointment.
Waiting Times
We do value your time and are successful with running on time most of the time. However, sometimes there are emergencies that arise that are out of our control. We will either call you to inform you of the small delay or let you know when you arrive. We do our best to keep you informed at all times. In the event of a delay, you are more than welcome to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
We would like to ask that you arrive to your scheduled appointments on time. As a new patient, a preference of coming in 10 minutes before your first appointment to fill in a health history if you have not already filled in the one above in this message.
It is at the discretion of the Dentist or Oral Health Therapist if you are late, whether you will still be seen on the day.
After hours appointments
For your convenience, we offer appointments before 9.00 am every day and after 5.00 pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The appointments in these times are the first appointments to book.
Please note as mentioned above that our patients do book their Active Maintenance appointments 6 months in advance so any appointment after 3.30 pm is a priority appointment. We do however keep our patients informed if their perfect appointment becomes available with our Priority Standby system.
Cost of treatment
At your consultation or examination, we will provide detailed quotations of any required treatment. These will include all item numbers so you can check your health fund rebate prior to treatment.
Some health funds will allow us to swipe your card and provide you with an on-the-spot quote of your out-of-pocket expense.
Many of our new patients ask if we are preferred providers with any health funds? We are only preferred providers with Bupa. This was a decision we made when we opened the practice 23 years ago.
We want our patients to be able to have the freedom to choose what treatment they would like to have and what they need to have, rather than depending on what their health fund allows them and when.
We do have the Hicaps facility to process your health fund claim at the practice after your treatment. Please make sure you bring your card with you every visit. We accept all health funds that provide a swipe card.
Medicare’s Child Dental Benefit Scheme
Our practice is very familiar with Medicare’s Child Dental Benefit Scheme. This scheme is means-tested and is offered to families that fall into a certain tax bracket. Children that are eligible are granted $1052 to use on basic dental treatment over two years.
We can check if a child is eligible for the scheme. And we can let you know how much funds are available for them to use but that is all we are able to access due to privacy laws. If your child is eligible, we will check their available funds before every visit so you are aware of the balance. If they have no funds left or they are no longer eligible, we will call you before the visit so there are no surprises when you arrive at the practice.
Online Booking
If you didn’t book with us online – it is available for you for your convenience. Just go to our website at www.smilebrightdental.com.au and you can book with any of our Dentists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Cancellation Policy
We understand that at times you may not be able to keep your appointment, so we appreciate your cooperation in letting us know at least 48 hours in advance. By assisting us in this way, you may be helping someone else in gaining an otherwise unavailable appointment. Not giving us sufficient notice when cancelling an appointment may incur a $70 fee.
Failing to attend an appointment without notice
Patients who fail to attend appointments without notice will incur a $70 fee and will be unable to make any other appointments until the account is paid.
Active Maintenance
As part of our commitment to preventative health, patients receive a reminder sms or email to remind them they are due to come back for their regular examination and clean. We call it Active Maintenance at Smile Bright Dental.
Like a car if you maintain your teeth and gums every 6 – 12 months then you will have less issues not just with your oral health but with your overall health.
If you don’t wish to be on the reminder, please let our front office staff know.
Patient Referrals
We love seeing patients come through the door that have been referred by our patients.
In 24 years, our practice has been built with over 22,000 patients. We are so proud to be apart of so many lives. Our patients really do love us and we truly love them.
We do have a reward system for our patients, when they refer their friends and family to us, we will reward our patients with a little something special in the mail.
Practice Accreditation
SmileBright Dental was one of Australia’s first voluntary Accredited Dental Practice with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (as applicable to Dentistry) as part of Quality in Practice Introductory Dental Practice Accreditation. We are very proud of being accredited and continually strive to improve our standards and professionalism.
Disabled Patients
Our surgeries are more than big enough to accommodate any of your equipment. If you need any assistance when you arrive please call our practice reception and one of our helpful staff are more than happy to come and help you.
Patient Restrooms
The closest restrooms for our patients are located on the same level as our practice in the Food Court. The restrooms are located next to Mr Curry. There is a parents restroom and disabled restroom for your convenience.
Parking & Public Transport
Sunnybank Hills Shoppingtown has 4 levels of parking. At least 90% of the car park area is undercover. All parking at this centre is free. The closest parking is at the Post Office entrance of level 4. There are lifts or ramps for each level to make if easier for wheel chairs, prams and trolleys.
The taxi rank is located conveniently for our patients on level 4. Just outside the Post Office entrance. There are several seats for your comfort when waiting.
For our disabled patients, there are car parks spaces allocated just for you on level 4 car park, just outside the Post Office. If you need to park on another level there are carparks marked just for you and you can use the lifts to reach our practice.
